About UUFW

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Waynesboro began in 1955 as a place where people can practice liberal religion in the Shenandoah Valley. Unitarian Universalism has roots in Jewish and Christian traditions, but it is a creedless faith. We believe that there is no single religious path, and each person has the right to pursue an individual quest for truth and meaning.

In other words, we support the search for and development of a personal faith. We don’t hold members to a rigid set of doctrines, and we don’t offer simple answers to questions of faith. Instead, we encourage individuals to explore their spirituality in a responsible and meaningful way. And we’re a source of support for people seeking to live ethically, honestly, and lovingly as they face the challenges of each day.

The practice of free religion doesn’t mean that we don’t share common values and beliefs about how we relate to each other and the world around us. Our Fellowship affirms and promotes the principles set forth by the Unitarian Universalist Association.

  • Respect for the worth and dignity of every person
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence
