UUFW Activities

Our UUFW community nourishes much more than members’ spirituality and search for individual truth and meaning. We socialize together often in groups large and small. Social activities held throughout the year allow members to pursue common interests or just have fun together and, in the process, build lasting friendships.

UUFW members also share a deep commitment to the UU principle of justice, equity, and compassion in human relations. We’re given many opportunities as individuals and as a congregation to make meaningful contributions to improving our communities and world in which we live.

Fellowship Activities

UUFW members enjoy each other’s company in many ways, including:

  • Potluck luncheons for members, children, and visitors on the third Sunday of each month following the service

  • Annual holiday parties at Halloween (for children and adults) and Christmastime (for adults)

  • First-Saturday movie at the Visulite Theater in Staunton followed by dinner and discussion

  • Brownbaggers, a monthly lunchtime get-together for UUFW women

  • Organized hikes (pictured below) several times during the year beginning with our annual New Year’s Day hike

  • Annual summer picnic with Harrisonburg UUs

Social Action Activities

Here are just a few ways that UUFW members serve others and support the causes we believe in:

  • A monthly special collection for a designated local, national, or international nonprofit service organization. Each special collection raises hundreds of dollars for organizations like the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

  • Fair Trade Coffee sales to support small coffee growers and human rights on three continents

  • Volunteering to provide meals for the Augusta Free Clinic and to tutor Hispanic children at Casa de la Amistad

  • Disaster relief missions to offer services in locations like the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast and New Orleans (pictured below)
